Day 296 - Winter looms

Zigzag path yesterday

The cold spell continues but despite that the leaf carpeted zigzag path is still a joy to descend, though much of the wildlife has retreated for the coming winter. Some birds will have migrated to warmer climates and various animals will be preparing for their winter hibernation. The insects have vanished along with the fungi and soon the deciduous trees will be bare. The aging funicular still trundles steadily up the hill but now empty of tourists and soon that will be stationary as the yearly maintenance takes place. Bird song is replaced by the hum of the heating and occasional gusts of wind rattling the shutters. Today is misty once again, which always creates a very tranquil atmosphere, deadening sound and softening the colours, ideal for autumn photography.
