Day 309 - Nasskalt

Sommerberg bergbahn

It’s grey and wet today. ‘Nasskalt’ they say, which means wet-cold, the sort of cold that penetrates the skin. Its just above freezing and occasional gusts of wind swirl the leaves over the grey tarmac dumping them back to where they were recently cleared. At least these leaves were cleared manually using a rake, which has some meditative and therapeutic value and does no harm to the environment. Now there is another noise, the sound of the Bergbahn being restored for its 100-year anniversary next year. Power tools work their way over the wood tiled façade preparing the surface for a new coat of paint or varnish. The stationary funicular has its yearly maintenance so for the moment a shuttle bus has to transport locals up and down the hill.
